Farmers Market
Austin, Texas
SFC Farmers' Market Downtown ties a weekly Austin shopping trip to a larger food-systems mission: Sustainable Food Center says it works to improve access to fresh, nutritious food for all Texans and to cultivate a just and regenerative food system so people and the environment can thrive. At this downtown market, that mission takes a concrete form in a producer-only lineup of local farmers, ranchers, bakers, food producers, artists, and craftspeople who sell what they grow, bake, cook, make, or create. The result is a market shaped as much by local sourcing standards as by convenience, with Saturday shopping at 422 Guadalupe Street in central Austin.
Sustainable Food Center has spent 50 years working to improve the health, land, and livelihoods of Texas communities by addressing food security holistically and building partnerships across the Texas food system. That broader mission shows up directly at SFC Farmers' Market Downtown, where the market connects shoppers with local farmers, shortens the path from farm to table, increases fresh food access, and supports small-business revenue.
The market's producer-only standard matters here because vendors must be local farms, ranches, bakers, food producers, creators, artists, or craftspeople who sell the products they personally grow, bake, cook, make, or create. Sustainable Food Center also highlights a vetting process intended to give customers confidence that they are shopping locally.
The downtown mix is defined less by one product category than by how tightly the market limits who can sell: local producers and makers only, with farms, ranches, bakers, food producers, artists, and craftspeople all part of the same Saturday setup. Instead of a resale-heavy market, this one centers goods tied directly to the people behind the table.
No dogs are allowed, which is one of the clearest planning details to know before heading to the downtown market. The market operates at 422 Guadalupe Street, placing it in central Austin near Republic Square. It runs year-round on Saturdays from 9 AM to 1 PM, so this is a consistent weekly market rather than a short seasonal pop-up.
The setup is also producer-only, which means the people selling are local farms, ranches, bakers, food producers, creators, artists, or craftspeople offering goods they personally grow, bake, cook, make, or create. Restrooms are not available on site, so plan that part of your trip before arriving.
SFC Farmers' Market Downtown accepts SNAP/EBT, and Sustainable Food Center ties its food-access work to SNAP and WIC incentives that increase access to local fruits and vegetables. The organization also names Double Up Food Bucks Texas, the WIC Voucher Program, Texas WIC, and the Farmers' Market Nutrition Program among the programs connected to its food-access efforts.

Interesting and entertaining with good merchandise and great variety. Make a stop and pick up some fresh produce b while keeping small farms in the game. They are struggling and it's important to have these resources available. When our food supply chains break down, as we all have seen, it gets hard to find what we need. Local sources become essential in today's society when normal we depend on daily isn't there.
I love this farmer's market! Of course they have fresh produce, duck and chicken eggs, and grass-fed beef, as well as dog treats, jewelry, Turkish coffee, matcha and Chinese watercolor prints, empanadas, tamales, tye-dye, Nepalese dumplings, baked goods - there's something for everyone here. It's slightly smaller than other markets in the area but I like that because it's more chill earlier in the morning and I've had the chance to get to know some of the vendors over time - very sweet people. Highly recommend!
While small, it’s enjoyable to check out a farmers market. The vendors are great…including the tamales spot. Very hot, delicious tamales with gf and df options. Rose Burkhardt is there. Their jewelry is gold plated and has magnets to make it easy to put bracelets on yourself. Parking is always a thing downtown but is manageable. Street parking and garage parking nearby. It’s within a walking distance of the downtown paths. Worth a visit!
Really great farmers market! However, there are more stands dedicated to baked goods than fresh produce or animal products. There were sadly only three stands that had produce when I visited. I would love to see more farmer stands!
Love going to this Farmer's Market for fresh food & refreshing drinks. They have many vendors, free parking & restrooms on sight. I absolutely love the Cake & Spoon vendor. They have all sorts of handmade goods & items.
