Farmers Market
Queens, New York
Sunnyside Greenmarket sits within GrowNYC’s nonprofit food-access and education work, giving this Queens market a mission that extends beyond a weekly produce stop. In the Sunnyside neighborhood near Lou Lodati Park, the market brings GrowNYC’s Greenmarket model to Skillman Avenue between 42nd and 43rd streets. That matters here because the same organization behind the market also frames its work around farming, food access, education, and green spaces, tying a neighborhood shopping trip to a larger citywide effort. The result is a market with a practical local footprint and a clear public-service mission.
GrowNYC’s producer-only standards shape what Sunnyside Greenmarket is for: farmers and food businesses sell farm-based products they grow or produce themselves, rather than acting as resellers. That standard gives this market a direct link between regional producers and shoppers in Sunnyside, with the Greenmarket program explicitly focused on nourishing New Yorkers with fresh food from small farms.
The market also sits inside a broader nonprofit model that funds work in education, food access, farming, and green spaces, so its role is tied to more than transactions alone. In practice, Sunnyside Greenmarket connects a neighborhood commercial corridor near Lou Lodati Park with GrowNYC’s larger farm-to-city system and public-facing programs.
The strongest throughline here is programming rather than a published vendor roster: this market pairs weekly shopping with recurring public activities at the site. That makes the on-the-ground mix feel oriented toward both food access and neighborhood learning.
These additions give Sunnyside Greenmarket more structure than a simple sidewalk shopping run, especially for households planning a Saturday visit around food and family programming.
No dogs are allowed, a rule worth knowing before you head to Skillman Avenue with a pet. The market is located at Skillman between 42nd and 43rd streets in Sunnyside, near Lou Lodati Park, which gives you a clear neighborhood landmark for finding it. Restrooms are not available on site, so plan that part of your trip before arriving.
Saturday is the standing market day, and the market is identified as year-round in GrowNYC’s event details, which makes it a consistent weekend option rather than a short seasonal pop-up. Cooking demonstrations, educational programs, and family activities are part of the market’s regular character, so a visit may involve more than shopping alone.
Sunnyside Greenmarket accepts SNAP EBT, an important detail for shoppers using food benefits. Additional food-access and incentive programs listed for the market include the Farmer's Market Nutrition Program, FreshConnect Coupons, Healthfirst OTC for select plans, Health Bucks, Greenmarket Bucks, and Health Buck.
Cooking demonstrations, educational programs, and family activities are mentioned.

I love visiting this farmers market on Saturday mornings! They have basically all the staples you might be looking for- fruits and veggies, herbs, fresh flowers, milk, eggs, cheese, meat, baked goods and bread, cider, honey. One could easily satisfy all their food needs in one trip here. They used to have a compost drop off and textile recycling program which I utilized often, but it's temporarily on hold due to the pandemic. I hope they bring it back soon!
A great place to get fresh produce, dairy, fish, meat, or bread. There is a wide range of products and all of the vendors are very nice. Definitely the play to go for delicious, farm-fresh food!
Compost drop off, and farmers market. People from the New Farmer Development Program and others sell produce, plus Hot Bread Kitchen with many types of bread and other vendors with baked goods, honey, cheese, etc
Love getting my bread, milk and eggs every Saturday morning, I wish this market place would have more of a variety though.
I love it here. This is my weekly ritual, year-round. Even in the dead of winter, they’ve got all the produce, meat, bread, and dairy you could want. 10 stars.
