Farmers Market
Brooklyn, New York
Brownsville Rockaway YM connects this Brooklyn corner to GrowNYC’s larger nonprofit work in food access, farming, education, and green space. Set at Rockaway Ave at Livonia Ave, the market runs seasonally from July through November and gives shoppers a neighborhood stop for farm-based food under the Greenmarket umbrella. That mission-driven frame matters here: GrowNYC describes itself as a nonprofit supported by donations, with work that spans education, food access, agriculture, and green space across New York City. For shoppers in Brownsville, that means the market is tied to an organization built around getting fresh food into city neighborhoods, not just staging a weekly sale.
Rockaway Ave at Livonia Ave places this market directly in Brownsville rather than asking neighborhood shoppers to travel for fresh food. GrowNYC’s broader food-access focus gives that location extra weight, because the organization explicitly says its work is funded to support education, food access, agriculture, and green space in New York City. The market also operates within Greenmarket’s producer-only standards, meaning farmers and food businesses sell farm-based products they grow or make themselves.
That combination of a Brownsville intersection and a producer-only system shapes the local value of the stop. It keeps the emphasis on direct farm products while linking this market to a citywide nonprofit effort centered on access to fresh food. The season, from July to November, also aligns the market with the main stretch of regional harvest availability.
The clearest picture here is less about a long vendor roster and more about the payment and food-access setup attached to the market. GrowNYC ties this stop to farm-based selling standards and a broad benefits program, which signals an emphasis on fresh market staples sold directly through its network.
No restrooms and a no-dogs policy are the two details most likely to affect a visit here. If you are planning a longer shopping stop at Rockaway Ave and Livonia Ave, that changes how you pace the trip. The market is a seasonal operation running from July through November, so it is not a year-round option for this corner of Brownsville.
Payment flexibility is a strong point. GrowNYC lists cash, debit, and credit among the accepted payment methods, alongside multiple nutrition benefit programs. That gives shoppers more than one way to pay, which is useful for routine produce shopping and for households using public benefits. The market’s intersection location is straightforward, with the stop identified simply as Rockaway Ave at Livonia Ave in Brooklyn.
SNAP EBT is accepted here, alongside cash, debit, and credit. The market also accepts Farmer’s Market Nutrition Program benefits, FreshConnect Coupons, Healthfirst OTC for select plans, Health Bucks, and Greenmarket Bucks. GrowNYC also states that spending $2 in SNAP/EBT or Summer EBT earns a $2 Health Buck bonus, up to $10 per day.

I think they should have a private breast feeding place. Maybe there should be a help intercom where mothers can get help from the mini police depot. there's snow on the tracks
Nice station with a good view of the trains coming and going. There's also a small plaza on the southeast corner of the station. Rockaway Ave is a good area to go shopping as well as projects that stretch all the way to nearby Junius Street.
Wat can I say ..Its Rockaway Ave lol
Big shopping area. Lots of stores to choose from. From jewelry to clothes, beauty supply, shoe repair, dollar tree, chase bank, nail shop etc.
This station need an elevator. The station is clean, so far safe and is easily accessible to the MTA buses "60" on Rockaway Ave, buses "14" on Dumont Ave or Mother Gaston, buses "35" and "15" on Church Ave.
