Night Market
Santa Rosa, California
Santa Rosa Downtown Market centers its mission on building a strong community through an affordable market fair with local attractions, then puts that mission into practice with concerts, kids activities, and a downtown street-fair format in Courthouse Square. In summer, the market takes over the Old Courthouse Square area on Wednesday evenings, combining live entertainment with a locally sourced vendor selection in the middle of Santa Rosa. The result is less a quick produce stop than a midweek downtown gathering shaped by food, music, and family activities such as face painting, giant bubbles, and a scavenger hunt.
Old Courthouse Square is central to how this market works: the market describes the historic square as being lined with street foods and food artisans, tying the event directly to a recognizable downtown Santa Rosa setting. Its mission also stays focused on affordability and on celebrating community through local attractions, which gives the market a broader role than a standard retail setup.
The market’s footprint extends beyond vendors alone. It is presented as part of the spirit of Sonoma County, and its listed partners include Sonoma County and the City of Santa Rosa, linking the event to both county and city institutions. Weekly programming also pulls in families and entertainment seekers with a Kids Space, live concerts, and special guest exhibits, making the downtown core active on Wednesday nights during the season.
The strongest through-line here is entertainment and family programming folded into a street-fair setting at Old Courthouse Square, rather than a narrowly defined farm-stand mix. Expect evening activities, stage acts, and kid-focused diversions alongside the market itself.
Concert listings include acts such as FUEL, Petty Theft, Los Alegres Callejeros, Urban Outlaws, and Air Force Joose, plus a Duran Duran tribute band and Banda Maguey on the schedule.
No dogs are allowed, which is one of the clearest planning details for this market. The market is set at Courthouse Square and 4th Street in downtown Santa Rosa, so the visit is oriented around a city-center evening event rather than a standalone lot or daytime shopping trip. There are no restrooms listed in the visit details, so this is not a market to approach as a long, amenity-heavy stop.
Timing also matters. This market runs on Wednesday evenings from May through August, and its programming leans into concerts, family activities, and special exhibits, so arriving with enough time to walk the square and catch part of the entertainment makes more sense than treating it as an in-and-out errand. If you are coming with children, the mix of jumpy house, bubbles, face painting, and scavenger hunt makes that part of the plan especially relevant.
SNAP/EBT is accepted at the Wednesday Night Market, an important detail for shoppers planning food purchases. Payment methods are otherwise marked as clear, which suggests visitors can expect posted guidance on how buying works once they arrive. With the market’s stated emphasis on affordability, SNAP acceptance fits the event’s broader access goals.
Entertainment runs 6–8 pm; Kids Space and face painting/magic/martial arts/story telling/education demos are mentioned. The site mentions monitors and cameras for safety and to deter vandalism/theft. Seating is referenced via “shade and seating nearby” and guests can bring lawn chairs.

Love the vibe. Every Wednesday night , during the summer , at five pm, the party starts downtown. Excellent food vendors, a wide variety of food available, beer and wine for sale, live music, and dancing. Is family fun
Great place for all around entertainment! Food, music, drinks and you can bring a blanket or chairs for a picnic or arrive early to reserve your favorite table and chairs! Always something new every week!
This is so nice! Beautiful area, great free music! The food is good, although overpriced. Pay as much or more for food here as you would having a sit down restaurant meal. But it's fun and tasty and I love it!!
The Wednesday market is not so much a place to shop for organic produce as much as a place to experience the quirky people personalities of Sonoma County. There are great food stands, street food, but people watching is the big attraction. The market is safe, very busy so keep the young ones close by. It is a great family experience, teenagers will get exposed to many flavors of their future selfs. Have fun!
I, personally loved the night market! Yes there were a lot of people, yes the lines were long after 6 but we got there right at 5, I was able to get all the food I wanted right away, the vendors were super friendly. The music was awesome, our kids had a blast! If I lived in The area I would definitely be there every week simply for the fun and inviting atmosphere.
