Farmers Market
Whitewater, Wisconsin
Whitewater City Market is part of Downtown Whitewater’s effort to re-energize and enhance the city’s historic downtown, linking the market directly to the neighborhood it serves. In Whitewater, the market is framed as more than a stop for shopping: it is a community event that supports local food, artisans, and artists, with volunteers helping run the information tent, assist with children’s activities, and care for the courtyard during market time. That combination gives the market a distinctly downtown shape, rooted in Whitewater’s historic district and organized through the same local network that promotes nearby events and public spaces.
Downtown Whitewater, Inc. describes itself as a volunteer-driven organization that brings people together to celebrate Whitewater’s history and traditions while caring for the downtown neighborhood. Whitewater City Market sits inside that mission rather than apart from it, which makes the market part of a broader local push to support an economically vibrant downtown historic district.
The market’s own volunteer needs show how hands-on that role is in practice. Organizers call for help with setup and takedown, the information tent, vendor support, children’s activities, and keeping beer in designated areas in the courtyard. The market is also named alongside other downtown programming under the same umbrella, tying it to recurring public life in Whitewater instead of treating it as a standalone event.
The clearest picture here is not a vendor roster but the market’s stated emphasis: local food, artisans, and artists share the same event footprint, with activity centered on the courtyard and information tent. Expect a market shaped as much by volunteer-run programming as by individual stalls.
Market-day activity extends beyond shopping. Volunteers help manage the information tent, offer water to vendors, assist with children’s activities, and monitor designated beer areas in the courtyard, pointing to a market with on-site programming as well as sales.
No dogs are allowed, a detail worth knowing before you head to 341 S. Fremont Street. The market runs seasonally from May through October rather than year-round, so timing matters if you are planning a visit around the broader downtown calendar. Restrooms are not available on site, which can affect longer visits, especially if you are pairing the market with time around downtown or nearby public spaces.
The setting also shapes the experience. Market activity uses a courtyard setup with an information tent and designated beer areas, and volunteer roles include helping visitors with questions there. Whitewater City Market is positioned within Whitewater’s historic downtown and connected to places such as Cravath Lakefront Park and the Cravath Lake Community Center, so it fits naturally into a wider downtown outing.
Volunteers may help manage an information tent and assist with children’s activities; live musicians are included.

Fresh veggies, pizza and baked goods from local residents! ... And beer! A nice, friendly, fun crowd for all ages to enjoy. There's also crafters and food vendors so if you don't like to cook your own salads come down and have some fresh baked pizza or try a food truck
This is such a great community gathering space next to the historic train depot. Farmers and artisans display their lovely wares, children play in the trees, community organizations have booths, musicians are sponsored here, food trucks, plants, people watching, etc., etc. We never miss it!
Very crowded all vendors squished into one area with lots of people milling around. Hard to see anything without being banged about.
Great gathering of local folks and an opportunity to support local agriculture.
Great Indoor Market at the Library even though the weather didn't help.
