Farmers Market
South Milwaukee, Wisconsin
South Milwaukee Downtown Market pairs weekly shopping with space for nonprofit groups, a detail that says a lot about how the market uses its downtown footprint. The market brings people to downtown South Milwaukee for an eclectic mix of merchants selling fresh fruits and vegetables, baked goods, flowers, art, jewelry, and more, alongside samples from area restaurants, live entertainment, and special events. That combination gives this market a broader shape than a produce-only stop: it is built as a recurring downtown destination with food, shopping, and programming folded together in one visit.
Downtown South Milwaukee is the setting for a market designed to draw area residents into the city center for a weekly shopping experience. Its stated mix matters locally because it combines fresh fruits and vegetables, baked goods, flowers, art, jewelry, restaurant sampling, live entertainment, and special events in one place rather than treating the market as a narrow retail strip.
The local ties are also visible in the organizations connected to it. The market lists the City of South Milwaukee, the School District of South Milwaukee, the South Milwaukee Health Department, Caterpillar, and the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection among its partners. Nonprofit groups can seek space through the market manager, which makes the market usable not just for sellers but for local organizations as well.
The emphasis here is breadth: produce and baked goods sit alongside flowers, art, jewelry, restaurant samples, and entertainment, so a visit can cover groceries, gifts, and a meal stop in the same downtown walk. The market’s own description highlights a shopping mix that stretches well beyond farm stands alone.
No dogs are allowed, which is one of the clearest rules likely to change how you plan your visit. Restrooms are available on-site through portable facilities, and additional restrooms are available at Barbiere’s Italian Inn near the market.
Parking details are spelled out most fully for vendors: only limited vendor stalls are available directly behind some booths, no other vehicles are allowed on the selling grounds, and indoor market sellers are asked to unload and then repark in designated vendor parking so the closest parking remains available for customers. The market also notes electricity is available for vendors for a weekly fee, and its rules include an indoor market setup with reconfigured indoor space, pointing to activity beyond the outdoor summer run.
Vendor amenities include limited vendor parking stalls directly behind some booths; no other vehicles are allowed on the selling grounds. Additional vendor parking is provided nearby. (Indoor market parking: unload and repark in designated vendor parking area; leave closest parking area for customers.)
Portable restrooms are available on-site; restrooms are also available at Barbiere’s Italian Inn near the market. Electricity is offered for $5 per week. The market is held rain or shine and does not close for rain; it only closes for lightning, microbursts, or tornado warnings once open. No generators are allowed at the market because of noise.

I know it's early in the season to get a lot of fresh vegetables, but it's not just the vegetables. You have food, handmade soap, things for your dog, honey, and live music every Thursday. It's such a nice market to visit.
This market is on Thursday night and I love that I can stop by on my way home from work. They have food vendors for supper and music on the stage. There is also 50 or more Crafters, farmers, and a variety of different things to buy. Kids can get there face painted and drink fresh lemonade.
Such a great event, especially when they have live music. Lots of food vendors, including fresh produce during the season. A great place to plant your lawn chair, have a sandwich or a snack and a cold beverage while listening to great music.
I love the fresh made kettle corn and lemonade. They have fresh smoked bones for my dog. I LOVE the natural, local made Nurish products for personal care. (Bug spray, deodorant, lip balm, yoga mat spray and more). Plus fresh produce, hot food, pastries and the list goes on. Update: a lit of good venders have not returned to the market. Its definitely not as nice as it has been. Still fresh produce and live music.
We love the South Milwaukee farmers market. The updates to the market have made it a place in South Milwaukee we can all be proud of. It's one of the smaller markets in the area but it's well done with love music and variety of vendors.
