Herndon Farmers Market is part of the Fairfax County Park Authority farmers market system, which places this Thursday market within a county-run network rather than a standalone operation. In Herndon, it sets up in Old Town on the 700 block of Lynn Street by the Red Caboose, with the listed visitor address at 768 Lynn Street. The market runs on Thursday mornings from May through October, giving Old Town a fixed weekly produce stop during the main growing season. That combination of a county partner and a specific downtown setting makes this market feel especially tied to everyday neighborhood routines in central Herndon.
The Fairfax County Park Authority describes its farmers markets as strictly producer-only, meaning farmers and producers may sell only what they raise on their farms or make themselves. For shoppers in Herndon, that matters because the market is designed to create opportunities for area farmers and food producers, not resellers. The Old Town Lynn Street location also gives that producer-only model a visible downtown presence, right by the Red Caboose rather than in a private retail setting.
The market’s placement within the county system adds another local layer. Fairfax County Public Schools and the Dept. of Economic Initiatives appear among the connected public entities listed alongside the market program, showing that the market sits inside a broader county civic framework. In practice, Herndon’s market reads less like an occasional pop-up and more like a seasonal public service anchored in Old Town and organized through county parks infrastructure.
No dogs are allowed at the market, except service animals, a policy the market notes is in place for health and safety reasons. If you usually shop with a pet, that detail will change your plan before anything else. The market is held in Old Town Herndon on the 700 block of Lynn Street by the Red Caboose, with 768 Lynn Street listed for visitors, so aim for the downtown Lynn Street area rather than a park field or school lot.
Thursday is the only market day here, and it runs from 8 a.m. to noon during the May-to-October season. The market page also notes that vendor listings can vary by specific market day and may include pop-up vendors, musicians, and community agencies, so the mix on any given Thursday can shift within that overall county market format. Restrooms are not available in the visitor details provided for this market.
SNAP/EBT is accepted at Herndon Farmers Market, an important option for shoppers planning to use nutrition benefits on market day. The market’s visitor details also indicate that payment methods are clearly identified, which can make it easier to sort out how to pay before you join a line.
Markets are plastic bag free; bring reusable bags. Pets are not accommodated except service animals.

Nice variety of fresh produce and very friendly, helpful people. 🙂 Also, it’s easy to drop off kitchen compostable fruit and vegetables and used coffee and tea leaves. At the end of the day I just empty a bowl kept by my sink into reusable ziplock bags kept in the freezer till my trip to this market where it can be dumped in their bins. No smells no waste. Makes the best new soil for next years veggies! 😉
Great farmer's market in downtown Herndon. Most vendors sell fresh produce or bread. Occasionally there is live music as well. One of the vendors crossbreeds different strains of apples to create some of the most delicious apples I have ever tasted. His honey crisp apples are far cheaper than you can find in a grocery store. Check it out if you're in the area!
Great little gem in the Town of Herndon... from 8am until 12:30pm every Thursday. Stop by and get all your groceries... this was a big reason lost over 100 pounds in roughly a year... it forced me to make good choices because of healthy selections.
It's a small farmers market. A few bread vendors, a nice meat vendor, and several produce vendors. All of which is beside the Dairy Queen in downtown Herndon so there is plenty of parking in the nearby municipal lots.
It's a lovely small farmer's market with lots of produce and some great bread vendors. Also someone with meat for sale. Right on the street so easy access for anyone who parks near by.
