Farmers Market
Pierre, South Dakota
Capital City Farmers Market ties its weekly Pierre market to St. Jude, giving this downtown-adjacent stop a clear civic footprint alongside its vendor lineup. The market sets up in the Public Parking Lot at Sioux Avenue and Coteau Street, one block east of downtown Pierre, for Saturday shopping during the May-to-October season. That puts fresh foods, baked goods, handmade items, and pantry staples in an easy central location, with a mix that runs from all-natural meats and eggs to tamales, sourdough breads, skincare, and pet treats.
The market operates one block east of downtown Pierre in the Public Parking Lot at Sioux Avenue and Coteau Street, giving Pierre a regular Saturday market presence in a central, easy-to-reach spot. Its vendor mix includes farm products, prepared foods, baked goods, and handmade goods rather than a single-category roster, with Hanisch Farms selling vegetables, fruit, and federally inspected all-natural meats, and Nancy’s Nest / Todd Ranch offering retail beef, custom-cut beef, custom-cut pork, South Dakota honey, and farm-fresh eggs.
The market also has a documented framework for South Dakota food-selling rules, noting baked-goods requirements, approval for canned items, and a candling license for egg sales through the State of SD. That combination of central siting, direct sales, and state-regulated vendor activity gives the market a practical local role in Pierre’s weekly food routine.
The mix here leans heavily toward foods you can take straight home, especially meats, breads, eggs, sweets, and pantry items, while still leaving room for makers selling books, fiber work, skincare, and pet-focused goods. The result is a market where grocery-minded stops and gift-minded browsing sit side by side.
No dogs are allowed, a detail that can shape plans before you head to the lot. The market is held in the Public Parking Lot on the corner of Sioux Avenue and Coteau Street, one block east of downtown Pierre, with parking tied directly to that location. Saturday shopping runs from 9am to noon during the May-through-October season, so this is a morning market rather than an all-day stop. Restrooms are not available on site. If you are planning around specialty rules, the market also notes South Dakota requirements for baked goods, approved canned items, and candling licenses for egg sales.
SNAP/EBT is accepted at Capital City Farmers Market, which matters here because the vendor mix includes produce, meats, eggs, breads, and other take-home foods. Payment details are presented clearly by the market, and SNAP acceptance is confirmed through the market’s own materials.

One of the Nicest I’ve been to! Good Music, reasonable prices, Wonderful People, Children & Dogs! Had Maple Lemonade for $5, a Filipino Empanada for the same. I was recommended to the Tamale lady, known for her green salsa, but I’m not eating much these days. Free Parking, a small tent with water to rest. I hear it has an indoor location in the Cold months.

Such a good farmers market! Live music, local vendors, good food. Lots of options for local produce and locally produced drinks and food options. If you’re in town on the weekend, I highly recommend stopping by!
What a wonderful market. Friendly, informed and helpful vendors. Excellent produce and prepared goods. Highly skilled crafts from woodworking and soapmaking to stuffed fantasy fabric animals. Well worth stopping by. See you there!
Great selection and friendly vendors. My favorites were the mushroom, fresh bread, and homemade soaps vendors. Went twice during my visit and can't wait to go again next time I'm in the area.
