Farmers Market
Carlisle, Pennsylvania
2 N. Hanover St. puts Farmers on the Square right in downtown Carlisle, where the market runs every Wednesday afternoon as a year-round, producer-only market. The setup is tightly local: vendors live and work within 50 miles of Carlisle, and the market’s stated focus is equitable access to quality regional products. That gives this market a distinct shape compared with broader mixed-vendor markets nearby: the emphasis stays on farmers, food producers, and prepared-food businesses tied directly to the region.
The mix here runs from certified organic vegetables and pasture-raised meats to brick-oven breads, goat cheese, mushrooms, seafood, wine, mead, and several prepared-food stands. It reads like a market built for a full weekly shop, with raw ingredients, pantry items, and ready-to-eat options all represented.
No dogs are allowed, which is the clearest rule to plan around before heading to the square. Parking is metered on both Hanover and High Streets, and there is also a metered lot beside the Post Office on West Louther Street that becomes free after 4pm. Another option is the parking garage on Pomfret Street, less than a five-minute walk from the market. The market operates in downtown Carlisle every Wednesday afternoon, and its year-round schedule includes a winter season format as well. Restrooms are not available on site.
SNAP/EBT is accepted here, and the market matches up to $20 in SNAP or WIC funds each week through its Fresh Match program. It also matches any amount in Farmers Market Nutrition Program funding, underscoring the market’s stated focus on equitable access to local food. Volunteers help run the debit and EBT card reader at the market.
Metered parking is available on both Hanover and High Streets. There is also a metered lot beside the Post Office on West Louther St., which is free after 4pm. Additionally, there is a parking garage located on Pomfret Street, which is less than a five-minute walk from the market.
Fresh Match matches EBT benefits up to $20 per week per recipient and also matches FMNP and Senior FMNP benefits; vouchers are turned in at the Market Info Tent. The market is rain-or-shine and only cancels for dangerous travel conditions; cancellations are advertised on Facebook, Instagram, and the email newsletter.

Very good. They brought in a new stand. The Falafel Shack based out of Chambersburg, Pa. So far I had a double smash burger and a shawarma. Both were so delicious, but the shawarma took the cake! The shoe string fries were a little too skinny for me. I love the diverse mix of vendors they have for us to patronize!
I love it here. Fresh produce, live music, cold drinks & hot food. Good vibes all around. They accept EBT for those who have. I came today to grab a falafel sandwich and a Blackberry Peach Lemonade!
Carlisle is lucky to have such a nice market. There are some interesting choices here and the vendors are pretty friendly. I would like to return soon with more money to spend. I particularly liked the mead from Goblin Alchemy, the goat cheese from Camelot Valley, and the pork from El Cubano. The one vendor had some meats at fair prices as well. I hope the market gets busier as the weather breaks because the products are good and the people seem nice.
Put rotten fruit in bag X 2. I really wanted to like this market. I think it's important for community to survive and thrive. But twice, when I picked out a basket of fruit, it should have just been blindly, and without interference, dumped into a plastic bag; I pay and I go on my way. Instead, 2x, farmers at the stands have taken out better fruit in my basket/pint I picked and put in some rotten fruit on the table behind them instead. This dishonest switcheroo is unacceptable. Because it happened twice at two different stands it's obviously the norm here. For that reason I won't ever...
Great little markets with lots of fun stuff and yummy food. Gluten free and vegan options too for baked goods!
