Farmers Market
Portland, Oregon
The Oregon Farm Direct Nutrition Program is accepted at Portland Farmers Market - Kenton, alongside SNAP, Double Up Food Bucks, and Produce Match, giving this North Portland market a strong food-access role in its short summer season. Kenton Farmers Market was established in 2012 and is located in the heart of a historic neighborhood in North Portland. At N Denver and McClellan, the market brings together farms, fisheries, bakeries, prepared-food makers, and specialty producers under the Portland Farmers Market umbrella.
Kenton Farmers Market has operated in North Portland since 2012, giving this part of the city a seasonal outlet for locally grown, raised, sourced, and produced food. Portland Farmers Market describes its markets as strictly food-and-farms marketplaces, with vendors screened across farms, nurseries, bakeries, meat and seafood providers, cheese makers, and specialty food producers.
That matters here because the Kenton market also accepts SNAP, Double Up Food Bucks, Produce Match, and the Oregon Farm Direct Nutrition Program, connecting neighborhood shopping with multiple nutrition support programs. The result is a market shaped both by regional farm supply and by practical access to fresh food in North Portland.
The mix here leans broad rather than narrow: orchard fruit, berries, mushrooms, seafood, meats, bread, drinks, prepared foods, and pantry staples all appear in the vendor lineup. It reads like a full dinner-and-shopping market, with raw ingredients, ready-to-eat options, and specialty items all represented.
The market calendar also includes an Earth Day Celebration, a Harvest Market, and live music.
No dogs are allowed, which is the key rule to know before heading to Kenton with a pet. The market runs at N Denver and McClellan, with plenty of free on-street parking and bike parking available. Restrooms are not available on site.
Because the season runs from June through September and the market takes place on Wednesday afternoons, this is a shorter seasonal stop rather than a year-round routine. Payment options are broad, including cash, credit/debit, and market tokens in addition to food-assistance programs.

So I stumbled and fell and a vendor in the Guatemalan booth found three strapping lads to help me brace so I could stand up. Not pull me up, just provide support. That right there is what our neighborhood farmer market is all about, neighbors. Best farmer market in Portland. Not too big. Great parking. Restaurants nearby. Beautiful variety and selection. Double SNAP dollars. Great education programs for kids. Such an excellent Wednesday afternoon.
Awesome neighborhood farmers market. Is smaller than some of the others (ie PSU) as it's 2 blocks long but has live music and a food vendor. There are the staple vendors then a few that rotate out.
The highlight of this farmers market is hands down Camellia Pistrina! Her all vegan pastries are incredible with unique flavors we've never had before. Such as Rose Genmaicha Tea Cake and Earl Grey Strawberry Shortbread Cookie! The flavors in them are deep and rich, whereas other desserts are simply sweet. Her pastries invoke a cottage house on a warm evening. She is so eloquent when speaking about her flavor combinations and the thought she puts into different tea cake recipes. Our favorite is the Desi Chai Tea Cake. A lot of her options are gluten free as well. Do not be intimidated from...
Cute little market! Much easier to shop than at larger markets. The florist made amazing bouquets. Just a handful of shops but you can buy baked goods, fresh vegetables, meat etc. Everything you may need. There was no prepared food at the market but there are several restaurants around it. We like Casa Maya and Fino!
This market hits several points for me. 1. It's small, so you can get a good survey of what's available quickly before buying anything. 2. There are several vegetable and fruit vendors, and they make up the majority. I think that's what farmer's market are for, and it's sad when they're super full of prepared foods and arts and crafts, which are nice and cool but I don't think should be the main focus. 3. Surrounded by other good things to eat and drink. 4. Local. This market is 10 minutes by car or 20 by bike from where I live, which means I can easily stop by after work and shopping here...
