Canal Market District brings a lively, community-focused market experience to downtown Newark, Ohio. From May through October, it runs every Friday from 4:00–7:00 pm in a historic, open-air covered pavilion at 36 E Canal St, and it operates rain or shine. The market highlights locally grown produce along with handcrafted chocolate, bread, art, and more, with over 50 farmers, bakers, chefs, and artisans participating. In winter months, the market shifts indoors to the Newark Historic Arcade (31 N 3rd St) from November through April, offering an indoor market with over 25 vendors.
The market is included in Downtown Newark’s Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area (DORA). A DORA allows persons aged 21+ to purchase alcohol from approved businesses and walk around the DORA district; visitors can bring alcoholic beverages to the market by picking up a wristband at an approved establishment. The pavilion can host events and weddings for up to 192 people; rentals start as low as $400.
