Farmers Market
Hillsborough, North Carolina
144 E. Margaret Lane places this market in downtown Hillsborough, where the town’s original market tradition dates back to 1754 and the current market continues that downtown pattern in nearly the same location. That long arc is the clearest thing about a visit here: a Saturday market tied directly to Hillsborough’s historic town layout rather than a newer pop-up setting. The market also emphasizes producer support and payment access, including SNAP, FMNP, and WIC with doubled value, alongside programming and live music.
The strongest throughline here is a producer-focused market that is actively shaping its vendor mix. Current season materials say the 2026 season is full, guest vendors are considered on a rolling basis, and the market is not accepting craft, meat, or prepared foods vendors while seeking mushrooms, nuts, or dairy. That gives shoppers a useful sense of what the market is prioritizing now.
The market also notes programming and a live music series as part of the regular experience, alongside accepted and doubled SNAP, FMNP, and WIC payments.
No dogs are allowed, which is the detail most likely to change your plans before leaving home. Parking is available in the sheriff parking area, though it can fill quickly. If that lot is full, there are three nearby lots around the corner off Cameron Street with two walking paths back to the pavilion. Another option is the Weaver Street parking deck, with a walk to market along the River Walk.
This is also a market with a clearly managed structure: managers, assistants, a board of directors, and a named SNAP representative are all listed for the current season.
SNAP is accepted here, and the market says it doubles the value of SNAP, FMNP, and WIC payments. That makes this one of the clearest planning advantages for shoppers using nutrition benefits. Melissa Cada is specifically listed as manager and SNAP representative, which signals that the program is built into the market’s regular operations.
Community Compost Collection takes place every Saturday morning and is described as a free service. The compost collection location is near the cardboard recycling and dumpster area in the parking lot (up the hill from the pavilion entrance). The market also mentions styrofoam recycling via the Community Compost Collection station with specific acceptance rules.

Friendly vendors, great selection. You can plan your visit before hand by checking out the website. Every vendor I spoke with was involved with the production of the product being offered. Several produce, meat and egg options.
Had a veggie box delivered yesterday. What a wonderful surprise as I had totally forgot about it. All fresh carrots, big bag of mixed greens, bean sprouts, small yams, green onions, and I think zucchini. It was great. They have gotten so popular that they are sold out through the 3rd Saturday in April
I love the smaller, calmer atmosphere at the Eno River Market, and also having an excuse to go into downtown on Saturday. Sometimes we go early in summer to walk the Riverwalk, which is just behind the market house. This market has everything: cheese, eggs, honey, the best bakery, flowers, *coffee*, crafts, even seafood. This past winter there were greens all winter, including lettuce. Great farmers!
For lovers of nature and tradition, I invite you to visit this market. Every Saturday from 8am to 12pm you will find exclusive organic products and prepared food. beautiful crafts and music according to the place.
The Eno River Famers Market is my current absolute favorite because: 1) it's close 2) they have more produce and less fru-fru than the other close farmers markets 3) they often have activities (music and/or crafts and/or flowers) for children 4) who doesn't love supporting local farmers while buying the freshest and the tastiest food? Love it.
