Farmers Market
Fearrington Village, North Carolina
East Camden is the setting for Fearrington Farmers' Market, a Tuesday afternoon market in Fearrington Village that began in 1991 through a collaboration between village residents, Jenny and R B. Fitch, and local farmers contacted through the Seeds of Hope Project. The market describes itself as producer-only, with farmers and makers selling goods they grow or make themselves, and its emphasis stays rooted in locally grown produce, plants, meats, baked goods, and home-canned goods. Located right off 15-501, halfway between Chapel Hill and Pittsboro, it is shaped around a direct exchange between area producers and shoppers rather than a broad resale mix.
The vendor roster is broad for a two-hour Tuesday market, with farms, prepared-food businesses, flowers, soap, chocolate, honey, and drink producers all represented. Because the market is producer-only, the lineup centers on goods grown or made by the people selling them, and the named vendors come from places including Pittsboro, Chapel Hill, Siler City, Sanford, and Saxapahaw.
No dogs are allowed, which is one of the clearest visit rules to plan around before heading to East Camden. The market runs on Tuesday afternoons from 4 to 6 pm during its April-to-November season, so the shopping window is short and tied to Daylight Saving Time scheduling rather than an all-day setup. Fearrington Farmers' Market is also explicitly producer-only, meaning the goods are represented as grown or made by the vendors themselves rather than resold from elsewhere. The market states that payment methods are clearly communicated, though no single payment type is specified here, and restrooms are not available on site.
Rain or shine; sales begin at the scheduled time with the ring of the bell. Bring small bills ($20 or lower) to pay for purchases; some vendors accept credit and debit cards, and most accept checks.

Surprisingly active farmers market with buyers lining up to buy at the opening bell. Nice selection of local vegetables, fruits and baked goods. About 20 vendors and dozens of people buying.
Update April 2022: Sour Bakery is back! You might want to pre-order online to avoid the long line at the market. A nice farmer's market with a good variety of vendors. Sour Bakery and Sweet Little Something are standouts, but Sour Bakery has paused attending 'cause of staff shortages. Prices are more than at a big grocery, but the quality is much better. There are some long lines, esp. for peaches, but it moves fast. Masks no longer required (2021-06-01).
Fearrington Farmers' Market is one of the area's seasonal markets (open from mid April to Thanksgiving weekend) hosting more than twenty vendors selling seasonal produce, meats, cheeses and prepared foods (and occasionally a wood fired pizza vendor) each Tuesday afternoon beginning at 4 pm. The setting makes Fearrington Farmers' Market even more appealing, situated in Fearrington Village between Chapel Hill and Pittsboro. Plan to spend a little extra time strolling the paths around Fearrington, visiting the Belties (some people refer to them as Oreo cows because of their unique coloring), and...
Love pre-ordering, pre-paying, no standing in line, packaged up. Peaches, bread, organic produce, fruit, flowers available this way. Cuts time to 10 minutes. Sign up for newletter.
A small market with a great, friendly vibe that's loaded with great vendors. You can buy local produce, dairy, and meats, and you can feed yourself with prepared sandwiches and baked goods. There's usually at least one food truck there too. Local restaurants have booths where they'll give you samples from their in-store menus, and they'll sell you bottles of sauces and breads too. Located in a picturesque setting with oak trees, a pond and beautiful Fearrington Village as a backdrop.
