Farmers Market
New York, New York
Dag Hammarskjold Plaza Greenmarket sits at E 47 St and 2 Ave, linking a Midtown East plaza with GrowNYC’s wider nonprofit work in food access, farming, education, and green space. That pairing gives this market a distinctly New York shape: an outdoor produce stop in a dense office-and-residential district, operated within an organization that frames fresh food as part of a larger civic mission. The market runs year-round in Dag Hammarskjold Plaza, so it serves as an ongoing source of farm-based shopping rather than a short seasonal pop-up.
Dag Hammarskjold Plaza Greenmarket is part of GrowNYC’s Greenmarket system, which says it maintains strict producer-only standards, meaning farmers and food businesses sell farm-based products they grow or make themselves. That matters in Midtown East, where the setting is highly urban but the market format is built around direct regional farm sales rather than resale.
The market also sits inside a broader organization that ties food shopping to public-facing work in education, farming, and green space. GrowNYC describes its programs as supporting community gardens and urban farms across the five boroughs and identifies food access as one of the areas funded by donations. In practice, that makes this market more than a transaction point in a plaza: it is one piece of a citywide structure connecting regional producers with New Yorkers.
This market’s defining emphasis is not a published vendor roster here, but the GrowNYC producer-only standard and the organization’s broader farm-to-city programming. Expect a farm-based mix shaped by that rule, with shopping tied to the same network that runs seasonal food education and agricultural events across the city.
Events connected to the same organization range from Maple Days to the In Season: GrowNYC Gala and Union Square Greenmarket Cider Village, which gives a sense of how Greenmarket shopping sits alongside seasonal food programming across the city.
No dogs are allowed, and restrooms are not available, two details that can change how long you plan to stay and who comes with you. The market is set at E 47 St and 2 Ave in Dag Hammarskjold Plaza, so it is easy to pair with other Midtown East errands rather than treating it as a destination with on-site amenities.
This is a year-round Greenmarket, which makes it a practical repeat stop across the calendar instead of a warm-weather-only routine. If you need direct assistance beyond what is posted publicly, GrowNYC lists a main office phone number at 212-788-7900. The same organization also maintains FAQ and contact resources tied to its markets and food access initiatives.
SNAP EBT is accepted here, and GrowNYC connects that access work to a broader set of food access programs that also reference WIC, eWIC, HealthFirst, and New York State nutrition benefit initiatives. For shoppers using nutrition benefits, that places Dag Hammarskjold Plaza Greenmarket within one of the city’s established Greenmarket access systems.
All GrowNYC Greenmarkets accept SNAP EBT and other nutrition benefits; SNAP EBT is converted into wooden tokens and market currencies at the market information tent.

Great selection of fresh produce and super nice vendors. Very small but so convenient to have in the neighborhood. I go every week!
I love this green market although it is only once a week I never missed it. You can buy really fresh vegetables ( including organic) and fruits from the local farmers. Bakeries sell fresh made breads and pies as well as selection of gluten free products.Fresh fish stall is not to be missed ! Fantastic athmoshpere !
If you are looking for fresh fruits and vegetables, you should definitely try the Farmers' Market every Wednesday from 7:30am to 2pm. Excellent quality, and the taste is completely different than the supermarket fruits and vegetables.
I love this market. It's not very big, but vendors offer great produce, baked goods, and cheeses among other offerings. There's an apple vendor with a couple dozen fresh orchard varieties, some very unusual ones, and the cost is less per pound than regular supermarket apples. I love the breads from Francesca's Bakery. The market is year-around and a great asset to the Turtle Bay neighborhood Midtown East. Plus, Dag Hammarskjold Plaza park is a really nice place to enjoy lunch.
One of the smaller out door markets but they have a great selection of organic vegetables cheeses and jams and they change vendors so sometimes you have different options and they have a compost station which is really cool
