Farmers Market
Muskegon, Michigan
At 6401 Harvey St. in Muskegon, Sweetwater Local Foods Market runs as a Saturday market with a year-round schedule and a long-standing focus on small, organic farms and producers whose goods fit its “Healthy. Humane. Homegrown. Local Food You Can Trust!” approach. The market began in July 2005 as a non-profit farmers market in Muskegon, Michigan, organized to promote products that exemplify organic practices. That emphasis comes through in the mix of growers, bakers, dairy makers, meat producers, ferments, and pantry staples that appear in its weekly vendor lineup.
Tomatoes, greens, herbs, grass-fed meats, goat cheese, bread, coffee, cacao, and ferments all show up in the market’s vendor roster, with a strong lean toward produce and foods tied closely to Michigan farms. Several vendors also note pre-orders, bulk buying, or rotating weekly selections, so the market can work for both a quick shop and a more planned pickup.
No dogs are allowed at Sweetwater Local Foods Market, a useful detail if you usually pair errands with a pet walk. The setup shifts with the weather: in summer-type weather the market operates in the parking lot, and when conditions turn inclement it moves indoors to the lobby. The market meets on Saturdays from 9am to noon and runs year-round, which makes it a steady option beyond the main outdoor growing season. Sweetwater also describes itself as a non-profit market begun in 2005 to promote small, organic farms and producers using organic practices, a framework that helps explain the farm-focused mix on the tables.
Sweetwater accepts SNAP/EBT, making it one of the clearer payment-planning details for this market. The market also notes acceptance of WIC Project Fresh Coupons in its vendor communications. Payment details beyond that are presented clearly by the market, and some vendors advertise pre-orders or pickup arrangements for larger meat or produce purchases.
Market is operated in the parking lot during summer type weather; indoors in the lobby when the weather is inclement.
Operates at Mercy Health Lakes Village; in summer type weather it is in the parking lot, and indoors in the lobby when weather is inclement.

Just. Sites off season on Oct 25 and I was pleasantly surprised by how big the market was. I daytripped from the Ann Arbor area, and our market is a lot more expensive. I got several stems of flowers for $1 per stem, a plant, and a few other things. Everything was much more affordable than Ann Arbor. Do bring cash, some of them only accept cash/checks or have a min of $10.
First time visiting on Saturday and was pleasantly surprised the market was so big! Great variety of items! I highly recommend checking it out! The vendors were all very welcoming and friendly! Will definitely return when in the area.
We enjoyed our visit and made many purchases of cheese, fruit, coffee, and donuts! The parking was easy and there were many vendors, all of them covered against rain. Bring cash- most of the vendors accepted credit card or tap to pay but some were only able to accept cash unfortunately. No dogs are allowed on site and there was a loud live band.
Plenty of stalls mostly hosted by individuals and small businesses selling not just farm produce but lots of other types of food, candles, arts and crafts, etc. Visiting on a holiday weekend it was though very busy.
Best farmers market I've ever been to. Abundance of fresh vegetables and fruit. Also a large variety of food, coffee and craft vendors. Something for everyone!!
