Farmers Market
Leland, Michigan
Leland Farmers Market sits within the Leelanau Farmers Markets Association, the county nonprofit that has operated since 2014 with a board made up of vendors and community members and advisory support from MSU Extension. That structure gives this Thursday market on River Street a clear local frame: it is part of a county effort organized around locally produced farm and food products for the benefit of the Leelanau community. In a town closely tied to the surrounding peninsula, the market reads less like a stand-alone stop and more like one piece of a broader Leelanau food network.
The Leelanau Farmers Markets Association states its mission plainly: to provide locally produced farm and food products for the benefit of the Leelanau community. For Leland, that means the market is tied to an organization built specifically around county growers, food producers, vendors, and community members rather than an outside operator. The association also describes farmers markets in Leelanau County as a win-win because they expand access to fresh, quality products while creating an outlet for local farm businesses. MSU Extension serves in an advisory role, adding another local institution to the market’s support system.
This market is presented through a countywide vendor directory built around individual producer pages, product lists, and market-by-market availability rather than a single generic roster. That setup points shoppers toward following specific Leelanau vendors across the season and using the market as one stop within a wider farm-and-food circuit.
The association calendar also links visitors to participating vendors and additional market details as events are posted. The Leelanau Farm-to-Table Dinner is one named event connected to the same market network. One of the clearest threads around Leland Farmers Market is how the Leelanau system extends beyond an outdoor summer schedule. The association highlights special one-day indoor farmers markets held inside area schools in Leland, Glen Lake, Northport, and Suttons Bay, tying market activity to K-12 educational programming as well as farm sales. That matters here because the same organization behind the River Street market also frames local food as something that moves through schools, seasonal events, and countywide partnerships, not only through one weekly setup. The agritourism side shows up in the Leelanau Farm-to-Table Dinner, which is presented alongside partners including Baia Estate, Bel Lago, Chateau Fontaine, Verterra, Audacia Elixirs, Planted Cuisine, Joy Farm, The Union in Northport, and Blu in Glen Arbor.
No dogs are allowed, which is one of the few explicit visit rules posted for this market and an important planning detail if you are walking River Street with a pet. The market runs on Thursdays from 9 AM to 1 PM and operates from June through September, so this is a summer-season stop rather than a year-round schedule. The market location is River Street in Leland. A phone contact is listed at 231-256-9888 for market questions. Restrooms are marked unavailable in the visit details, so it helps to plan that stop before arriving.
SNAP/EBT is accepted at Leland Farmers Market, an important option at a market organized around local farm and food products. Payment information is otherwise presented clearly in the market’s visit details, though the posted materials do not spell out a fuller list of tender types here.

Very nice small town grocery store. They do have store parking on the side of the building. All main categories. Fruits, vegetables, snacks, beverages and wines. Bread, pasta noodles. If camping nearby they have a selection of fresh meats too: chicken, beef, pork. Even the local products like jelly, jam. Great grocery store for the community and visitors on vacation. I purchased two jars of cherry 🍒 jam. Excited to find this local business cherry jam!! Enjoy!! Support local businesses!
The Merc in Leland is a small-town gem that blends local charm with everyday convenience. Friendly, real-life cashiers make each visit feel personal, and the quick-grab layout is perfect for cravings or last-minute picnic runs. Don’t skip the local baked goods near checkout—especially the cookies from Sisson’s, which disappear fast. There’s a small parking lot out front, but drivers aren’t always the most alert—it's often easier to park on the street or elsewhere in town and stroll over. My only wish? Slightly later hours in the summer would make this spot even more of a go-to.
Great little grocery store down in Leland. Good selection of beer as well. Convenient to stop with your boat at the dock by the boat launch to run in and grab what you need, ice too!
July 2021 - great little store that had what we needed. We grabbed some chips, drinks, chicken and fries. Took that to the small park close by for a picnic with the family. Staff was great.
Left my wallet on vacation. They turned it in to a nearby branch of my bank and I got my wallet mailed back to me! Huge relief. Also, they have nice employees and cigarettes. 10/10
