Sycamore Spring Farm Market stands out for how directly it ties farm shopping to a wider circle of non-profit partners and farm-based programs. In Frederick, the market centers on Sycamore Spring Farm’s own homestead production while also connecting shoppers to Hand-Picked growing partners, Food for Thought Community Gardens, and a CSA program shaped around farm products and produce access. That gives the market a slightly different feel from a standard stall lineup: the emphasis is less on a long row of independent booths and more on one farm site with linked growing, teaching, and member-focused offerings.
Sycamore Spring Farm anchors this market with produce and farm goods raised on a small working homestead that grows fruit, vegetables, and herbs. That local role expands through Hand-Picked, described as farming partners in Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Virginia who grow specialty produce for CSA members under Farmer Carol’s direction. The farm also links its market identity to Food for Thought Community Gardens, a named program based at or on the farm, which keeps the site connected to community growing rather than retail alone. Friends of the Farm and the CSA program appear alongside those efforts, reinforcing that this is a farm operation built around participation, membership, and partnerships as much as weekly shopping.
The mix here is centered on farm-grown food and farm-made goods tied to Sycamore Spring’s own operation and its close partners, rather than a broad multi-vendor downtown market spread. Expect the offerings to reflect the farm’s homestead, CSA, and on-site growing programs.
The calendar also reaches beyond shopping, with events such as a Herbs & Pollinators Tour, Summer Pesto Party, Paw-Paw Festival, Food Preservation Workshop, Soap making Class, fermentation workshop, pruning and trellising sessions for grape vines, and Regenerative Gardening Basics. The clearest thread here is agritourism built around participation on the farm itself: pick-your-own berries, cherries, tomatoes, figs, grapes, flowers, and herbs appear alongside poultry, meats, goat milk soaps, jam, preserves, canned goods, and occasional baked items in the farm’s own description of what life around the property can include. That same hands-on tone carries into the event lineup, where a Herb tour and Pollinators workshop sits next to Food Preservation workshop dates, a Paw-Paw Festival, Soap making Class, fermentation workshop, and sessions on pruning grape vines and regenerative gardening. Rather than separating shopping from programming, Sycamore Spring presents the farm as a place where produce, skills, and seasonal crops are all part of the visit.
No dogs are allowed, which is the detail most likely to change your plan before heading out. The market operates at 6003 Elmer Derr Road in Frederick and posts a direct phone contact at 301-788-6980 for farm communication. Restrooms are not available on site, so it helps to plan that stop before arrival. Payments are presented clearly by the farm, which makes this a more straightforward visit than markets where checkout options are uncertain. Because part of the farm’s produce and products are tied to its CSA Member program, some offerings connected to Little Red Hen’s Farm Market are specifically reserved for members rather than general walk-up shopping.
Farm is open April-December; CSA pickup is described as a time to visit and chat with other “farm family” members. Farm tours and access/use of cook-out & picnic areas are mentioned.

The world needs more places like Sycamore Spring Farm. Farmer Carol’s farm products are second to none in quality. She truly cares for the land and her animals. Support a local farm before there aren’t any left.
Been getting CSA produce boxes for years. Always fresh, and great people. Farmer Carol takes the time to talk to you and gets to know each of her customers. Highly recommend!
Fantastic working farm with crop shares, pastured chicken eggs, duck eggs, geese, goats, beef shares and one of the country's top English Shepherd breeders as well. You will not regret doing business with Sycamore Spring. Give Farmer Carol your business even just a few times and you'll likely become a faithful patron. Highly recommended.
Farmer Carol is awesome! This was the first year my husband and I purchased a farmshare and it has been a wonderful experience. Everything we get has been fresh and delicious. I love getting tips from Carol on how to prepare veggies we normally do not eat. Thank you for everything, Carol! You are wonderful :)
Farmer Carol is absolutely amazing in this crisis going on around the world. I feel safe and very fortunate knowing I can take care of my family as a Sycamore Springs Farm member. We can rely on her to provide us with fresh, clean, healthy food she sustainably farms where grocery stores are proving to be unsafe and unreliable during these unpredictable times. There was even an article going around that stores are going to have to start selling EXPIRED EGGS because they cant keep up with demand...No thanks!!! I'll keep getting my fresh food from the farm the way God intended.
