Farmers Market
Skowhegan, Maine
Skowhegan Farmers Market brings together year-round food vendors, orchard fruit, maple syrup, flowers, cheese, and baked goods in Skowhegan, with the summer market set at Maine Grains behind Hight Chevrolet and beside The Miller’s Table. The vendor mix leans strongly toward producers who grow, raise, bake, and make their own goods, from organic vegetables and small fruits to chevre, ricotta, yogurt, and sourdough bread. SNAP shoppers have multiple places to spend benefits here, including farms that explicitly serve SNAP and WIC participants.
Organic produce and dairy are central to the market’s lineup, and the roster also stretches into orchard fruit, maple, flowers, herbal goods, and pet treats. Several vendors are year-round sellers, which gives the market a steady core even as seasonal farms rotate through.
No dogs are allowed, which is the clearest policy detail to plan around. In summer, the market is located at Maine Grains in the parking lot behind Hight Chevrolet, beside The Miller’s Table at 42 Court Street. The market’s seasonal pattern also matters: it runs on Saturdays, remains outside through the first market in December, and shifts to winter hours in November. Restrooms are not available on site. If you are navigating by nearby businesses rather than street number alone, Hight Chevrolet and The Miller’s Table are the key landmarks for finding the market setup.
SNAP/EBT is accepted at the market. Individual vendors also note food-access participation: Dig Deep Farm serves WIC and SNAP participants, while Moodytown Gardens accepts WIC, Maine Harvest Bucks, SNAP/EBT, and participates in the Maine Senior Farm Share Program. Payment methods are presented clearly for visitors planning purchases.
SNAP/EBT is accepted at the info booth; Maine Harvest Bucks provide a 1/1 match for SNAP/EBT spending on eligible items. WIC is accepted by Moodytown Gardens, Dig Deep Farm, and Kennebec Valley Farm for eligible fruits and vegetables.

Since the market is so conveniently located for me this winter, I have been to every one and purchased something from at least half of the vendors. I'm a big fan of the fingerling potatoes I've been buying from Moody Town Farm (I think that's the right name but I wouldn't swear to it.) From other vendors I've also purchased cabbage, carrots, gingerbread cookies, apples, tons of herbed ricotta cheese from Crooked Face Creamery, coffee, cocoa and soap from Tessier's Farm, pies from Winterberry Farm, and a whole lot of delicious breads, whoopie pies, cinnamon rolls and cookies from Good Bread....
This is Boynton's Greenhouse on Madison Avenue, Skowhegan---year round. They still have a (small) selection of annuals remaining, as well as hanging baskets, which the latter were five dollars off last week. They have a nice selection of perennials, as well as ornamental trees and shrubbery. Did you know they also repot root-bound houseplants for a nominal fee? Either bring your own planter or purchase one there and one of the expert botanists on staff will take care of the rest. Here are some planters I put together earlier this season with plants from Boynton's.
Coming here is an easy and excellent way of supporting local Agricultural and other locally made products.
