Farmers Market
Baton Rouge, Louisiana
Red Stick Farmers Market ties its downtown Saturday market to BREADA’s mission of supporting the sustainability of independent local farmers, fishers, and food producers. In Baton Rouge, that mission shows up as a year-round Saturday market focused on food raised, grown, or made by the people selling it. The lineup reaches from Louisiana vegetables and microgreens to grouper, snapper, wild-caught shrimp, breads, pies, goat dairy, and muscadine wine, giving the market a distinctly regional spread. For shoppers who want local food with a clear producer connection, this market is built around that idea.
The market is producer-only, which means the produce sold under each farmer’s tent was grown on that farm. That rule shapes the shopping experience in a direct way: the market emphasizes seasonal produce native to Louisiana rather than imported tropical fruit, and harvest selection changes with the season.
BREADA also frames the market as part of a broader effort to sustain independent local farmers, fishers, and food producers. In practice, that local emphasis shows up across categories, from locally grown gourmet mushrooms and seasonal vegetables to locally grown pecans and Louisiana-made pantry goods. The result is a market that keeps the focus on regional agriculture and small food businesses in Baton Rouge.
The mix here leans heavily toward food you can cook with immediately or take home for later, with fresh produce, Gulf seafood, breads, dairy, meats, preserves, and prepared foods all represented. It is also a market where plant starts, flowers, and specialty items like hibiscus products and terrariums sit alongside staple groceries.
Arrive early for the widest selection, since farmers often sell out by the end of the market. This is a producer-only market, so the produce comes from the farms selling it, and the crop mix shifts with Louisiana’s growing seasons. Dogs are not allowed, which may affect how you plan a downtown Saturday stop.
The market is held at 501 Main Street in Downtown Baton Rouge. Restrooms are not available as a visitor amenity here. Payment methods are clearly posted, which helps if you are planning a larger grocery run across multiple vendors.
SNAP/EBT is accepted at the market, making year-round local food shopping more accessible. Payment methods are clearly identified on site, which is useful when you are splitting purchases between produce, seafood, baked goods, and prepared foods.

I love going to the market, especially to see and buy my tea cakes & sweet potato turnovers from the Tea Cake man. Because of him, I've visited the market, buying fresh farmed mushrooms, eggs, teas and spices. Downtown Saturday mornings are the best for me. Everyone from the farmers to the customers are fantastic. Live music makes it even better
We had such a wonderful time at the Red Stick Farmers Market in Baton Rouge! I brought three of my grandchildren, and it was such a fun, engaging experience for all of us. They especially loved going from vendor to vendor collecting stamps—it really kept them excited and involved. The weather was absolutely perfect, which made walking the market even more enjoyable. Of course, we couldn’t leave without visiting the plant vendors. We picked up a strawberry plant, mustard greens, and broccoli seedlings—such a great way to spark their interest in growing food. This market is lively, welcoming,...
I absolutely love the farmers market. I do wish is were bigger with more vendors but I love it. My favorites are the nice gentlemen who sales the homemade wines and sausage also, the tea cake man, then the Herbnbros with their homemade juices and sea moss, I also love the homemade pickles and jelly from the older black lady there as well. I go every Saturday
Love, love, LOVE the Red Stick farmer's market. One of the Saturday vendors sells a fresh cooked breakfast. 🍳🥓. The prices and quality of everything sold here is top notch. 🥩🥦🥪🍓🍞🍧🥒🥕. Try Cutters meat. Especially Paw Paw Gaylons sausage! You will never buy anything else!!
This was a solid little farmer's market w/ quite a few interesting booths selling interesting items. We purchased rum, muscadine wine, bread, and salsa. There were quite a few booths selling meat products of various origins but since neither of us partake of meat; our options were limited.
