Farmers Market
Chicago, Illinois
61st Street Farmers Market pairs a producer-only, food-only vendor mix with Experimental Station’s broader mission of supporting cultural producers from Chicago’s South Side. That gives this Hyde Park market a clearly defined shape: groceries and prepared foods from growers and makers, rather than crafts or general merchandise. On Saturdays, the draw is the range within that food focus, from Michigan fruit and vegetables to Chicago-made tofu, South Side bean pie, Kenyan coffee, breads, cheeses, honey, and hot sauce.
The mix here leans heavily toward ingredients you can build a meal around, with a strong showing from farms, bakers, and pantry producers alongside a few ready-to-eat specialties. Because the market is producer-only and food-only, the lineup stays centered on food raised, baked, brewed, cultured, or preserved by the vendors themselves.
No dogs are allowed, which is the clearest policy to factor into your Saturday plan. The market runs at 6100 S. Blackstone Ave. in Chicago’s Hyde Park area, and it shifts indoors in November, with Saturday markets continuing in November and December. If you shop from Build Coffee, you can pre-order bread for Saturday pickup, and if you’re buying from Gorman Farm Fresh Produce, that farm accepts pre-orders through Friday at 10am. Restrooms are not available on-site.
SNAP/EBT is accepted at 61st Street Farmers Market, a useful detail if you’re planning a regular grocery stop here. The market also lists payment methods clearly, which helps when you’re splitting a shop between produce, breads, prepared foods, and pantry items.
Entrance located at the intersection of 61st Street and Dorchester Avenue; vendors set up on 61st Street and Blackstone Avenue. Indoor season is at the Experimental Station building, 6100 S. Blackstone Ave.

At the Farmer’s Market, there is a coffee shop that has hands down the most delicious breakfast sandwich. I love coming on a Saturday for this sandwich. It’s so big, it’s usually 2 sittings or needs to be shared. The market in general is lovely, and has a little bit of everything. The fresh produce though and the flowers make it an easy win!
The Farmers Market on 61st was like heaven the options were insane. They had meat pies, creative icecreams, fresh produce, quiches, bean pie… everything. I tried the icecream and it was so delicious. The quiche was alright and the prices were a bit high but that’s just a farmers market for ya!!
I found everything I wanted, got mixed Greens for salad, tomatoes, onions, yellow n green bell peppers, there Vegetables comes straight from the garden also got Green tomatoes and asparagus. I was on 61st n Blackstone but they have Farmer's markets all over the city just Google locations and dates n times.
This is a gem of Hyde Park, and I wish we'd been going even sooner! There are wonderful fresh vegetables, fruits, pies, juices, pizzas, and more. The vendors are all extremely eager to please, and most of them take both cash and credit, which is very convenient if you're heading there after a run around Jackson Park! I definitely recommend getting there early so that the best quality and selection of items still available.
The best market in the city! A hidden gem that goes year round. Extremely good community vibes, great vendors and the folks who put it together really put in a lot of effort and care. they do weekly food demos, yoga upstairs and have live music at reasonable volumes (sometimes kids perform, sometimes a local band, sometimes one of the girls who volunteers will just play violin on the corner!) one of my fav weekly rituals- and every single vendor accepts Link Card and the market will double your money with Link Match!
